Contesto
Contesto Goiania è una città che conta un milione e mezzo di abitanti.
E’ una città moderna, con eleganti grattacieli, che però è circondata da
una popolosa periferia i cui abitanti vivono in povertà o in condizioni di vera
miseria. Disoccupazione, violenza, commercio di droga sono purtroppo
protagonisti di questi quartieri ai margini della città. I nostri progetti di
solidarietà sono concentrati in uno di essi, il bairro Capuava e devono la loro
esistenza ad una coraggiosa missionaria modenese, Anna Maria Melini, che
risiede là ormai da trent’anni.
Associazione Todos os Santos
E' costituita da 3 asili/scuole che ospitano fino a circa 600 bambini compresi fra i tre e gli otto anni. Qui i bambini ricevono tre pasti al giorno: quello del mattino al loro arrivo, il pranzo e la merenda/cena prima di andare a casa. Le “scuoline” sono per le famiglie del quartiere un posto sicuro in cui lasciare i propri figli durante il giorno, in particolare nelle fasce orarie in cui la scuola pubblica è chiusa. Il rischio per i ragazzi lasciati a casa da soli è di diventare facili vittime della strada, ossia della violenza, della delinquenza e del commercio di droga. Le maestre delle scuole sono per la maggior parte abitanti del quartiere, che hanno a cuore l’istruzione e la sicurezza dei bambini. Modena Terzo Mondo contribuisce a coprire i costi di queste strutture, dal momento che il sostegno della municipalità è scarso e incostante.
P.E.T.I.
Grazie all’aiuto degli amici di M.T.M. è stata costruita tre anni fa una nuova casa, adibita anch’essa a “rinforzo” scolare per i ragazzi dagli otto anni in su. Questa nuova struttura accoglie il P.E.T.I., Programma Eradicaçao Trabalho Infantil. Il progetto PETI è stato sviluppato dallo stato federale per favorire l’allontanamento dei ragazzi dal lavoro minorile. Infatti i bambini qui ammessi ricevono un piccolo sussidio dallo stato, così importante per le famiglie, riuscendo così a contribuire al bilancio familiare studiando anziché lavorando. La nuova scuola accoglie circa 200 ragazzi, divisi in due turni, mattina e pomeriggio.
Scuola di Informatica Bairro Capuava
E' nata da sei anni, per permettere ai ragazzi del quartiere di apprendere l’uso del PC e dei programmi informatici, ormai indispensabili nella maggior parte delle attività professionali e universitarie. La scuola dispone di cinque computer. Altri dieci sono in arrivo grazie ad una donazione del Banco do Brasil.

Context
Goiânia is a city with 1.5 million inhabitants. It is a modern city with elegant skyscrapers, but it is also surrounded by densely populated suburbs, where poverty is rife and whose residents live in truly destitute conditions. Unemployment, violence and drug dealing are unfortunately the protagonists of these districts on the edge of the city. Our aid projects are focused on one such district, the Capuava neighbourhood, and they were established by a very brave Modenese missionary, Anna Maria Melini, who has lived there for thirty years.
Todos os Santos Association
The association is made up of three kindergartens/schools which can accommodate around 600 children aged between 3 and 8-years-old. Here the children receive three meals a day: one when they arrive in the morning, lunch and then tea or dinner before they return home. The “little schools” provide the district’s families with a safe place to leave their children during the day, particularly during periods when the state school is closed. Children left at home alone face the risk of becoming easy victims of the street, that is of the violence, delinquency and drug dealing that is found there. On the whole the schoolteachers live in the district too and have the safety and the best interests of the children at heart. Modena Terzo Mondo contributes to the building’s running costs, since funds from the council are scarce and infrequent.
P.E.T.I.
Thanks to help given by supporters of Modena Terzo Mondo, a new house was built three years ago, which is used for school support lessons for children aged eight and above. The new building houses PETI, the Program for the Eradication of Child Labour. The PETI programme was developed by the government to keep children away from child labour. In fact the children who come here receive a small allowance from the State, which is so important for their families as the child can contribute to the family budget while studying instead of working. The new school can welcome around 200 children, divided into two turns, morning and afternoon.
Capuava’s Information Technology School
The Information Technology School was created six years ago to allow the district’s children to learn how to use computers and various computer programs, which are now essential in the majority of workplaces and universities. The school currently has five computers available, but ten more are on their way thanks to a donation from the Banco do Brasil.
